Pantelleria is an Italian island located in the Strait of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea, 62 miles southwest of Sicily and 37 miles east of the coast of Tunisia. On clear days, you can see Tunisia. Administratively, Pantelleria is a municipality that belongs to the Sicilian province of Trapani. Covering an area of 32 square miles, it is the largest volcanic satellite island of Sicily. The last eruption took place in 1891 below sea level, and today you can observe phenomena related to volcanic activity, such as hot springs and fumaroles.
